So you are watching a TV show or a movie and an incredibly cute dog or cat enters the picture. Nine times out of ten, you are probably admiring how cute the animal is. The thought of how much money the animal made for being in the TV show or movie probably never crosses your mind. That is not surprising, as most people do not think of animals as needing money or even earning money. Could you imagine your own dog or cat holding down a job? Of course not. However, the dog who played Eddie the dog on Frasier, the bear in the movie The Great Outdoors, and even the whale in Free Willy are all well-paid actors.
8. Terry the Terrier:
Weekly Earnings: $125 (compared to $50 for each Munchkin)
Terry the Terrier was a female dog who played Toto in The Wizard of Oz. Paid about $125 a week, Terry the Terrier was paid more than some of the human actors in the movie, including the Munchkins, who were paid $50 a week. Perhaps Terry was more valuable because she did her own stunts? When she wasn’t busy making movies, Terry the Terrier was a mother to Rommy, who also appeared in several films. Since The Wizard of Oz became such a popular movie, Terry’s name was changed to Toto, after the name of the dog she played in the movie.
